Thank you for visiting the Open House website. I hope you are able to find all the information you are looking for.
Open House is a not for profit organisation set up to give people a place to belong.
Our mission statement is:
Tackling social isolation head-on through creative programs and activities for all ages, giving people a place to belong since 1971.
Often, I am asked “who do you work with?”, and my response is simple - “everyone”. We have programs and activities for anyone and everyone that is lonely or socially isolated. Check out our latest video that will give you a snapshot of the things we do at Open House.
Social isolation is a debilitating situation to be in. It affects people of all ages and backgrounds.
I know all too well what it is like to be socially isolated.
When I first arrived in Australia four years ago, I knew no one except my wife and sons. Then when my wife started working at the the Royal Children’s Hospital, I became a stay at home dad for my two young boys aged five and two. I tried hard to engage with parents, to make friends and even joined local playgroups with my kids, however I found it difficult to be accepted. When I look back on this time I remember feeling incredibly lonely and isolated, as though I had nowhere to belong. Most of the time it was just me and my boys navigating our new lives together, with me often feeling detached and alone. But I persevered, kept smiling and eventually started to feel accepted and welcomed by a few groups, and now - four years on - I feel totally at home in Australia.
As Open House’s CEO I now have the opportunity to give other people a place to belong.
So if you are feeling socially isolated or would just like to see what we do here at Open House, don’t be shy, pop on by. We’d love to meet you. You can also call me directly on: 0401 508 468. I will be more than happy to answer any of your questions.
